Not for Radio | Melt
Not For Radio is a new name, but Maria Zardoya will be known to indie fans as singer with LA-based band The Marias, here embarking on the debut album from her solo sideproject. Zardoya explained that while she loves performing with The Marias, she wanted to embark on a more challenging path for a while, and that's definitely what these ten tracks represent. 'Puddles', for instance, is half trip hop cloud nine material, half Scott Walker-esque melancholy, her elfin-like voice very much at the centre of the sound. Comparisons have also been drawn with Air's soundtrack for 'The Virgin Suicides' - if you love earwormy arty pop that has its head floating way up in the ether, this is one for you.
